Phyllis J. Beckman

Phyllis J. Beckman age 86 of Detroit Lakes, MN died June 18, 2020 at Ecumen-Emmanuel Nursing Home in Detroit Lakes, MN.

Phyllis Jean Beckman was born January 10, 1934 in Elbow Lake, MN to John and Anna (Koltes) Beckman.  She grew up and attended school in Tintah, MN. She later graduated from Elbow Lake High School. She moved to Fargo, ND, where she worked in various retail department stores. She moved to Detroit Lakes in 1962 and raised her family there. Over the years she worked as a Nurses Aide at St. Mary’s Nursing Center, Emmanuel Nursing Home, and Lakes Homes, in Detroit Lakes.

Phyllis enjoyed gardening, feeding the birds, camping with family, and going to the Casino with her sisters. She was a member of the VFW Ladies Auxiliary.

She is survived by two daughters, Collette (Jeff) Murphy, of Detroit Lakes, MN; and Valerie (Dave) Soberg, of Detroit Lakes, MN; three sons, Rory (Carol Werner) Rusness, of Detroit Lakes, MN; Greg Rusness, of Detroit Lakes, MN; and Jeff (Jill) Rusness, of Detroit Lakes, MN; 12 grandchildren; 21 great grandchildren; one sister, Shirley Myron, of Casper, Wyoming; and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; six brothers and four sisters.

Graveside Services will be on Tuesday June 23, 2020; 11:00 a.m. at the Oak Grove Cemetery in Detroit Lakes with a visitation one hour prior to services at the West-Kjos Funeral Home in Detroit Lakes.
