Ramona "Monie" Amundson, age 85 of Detroit Lakes, MN passed away peacefully at her home on March 22, 2026, surrounded by her family and hospice care team.

Born September 27, 1940 in Detroit Lakes to Harry and Helen Runger. Monie spent most of her life in the community she loved, attending Holy Rosary School until the Eighth grade, and subsequently graduating from Detroit Lakes High School in 1958. It was there that she met her soulmate, Dale Amundson. The two remained inseparable for seventy years. Dale and Monie were united in marriage on November 5, 1960, and were blessed with two children, Michael and Susan.

In their early years, Dale and Monie built a cabin on Tulaby Lake, where the family enjoyed countless hours boating, water skiing, fishing, snowmobiling, hunting and creating cherished memories.

Monie worked as the office manager at Dahlgrens in Crookston, MN for nearly 20 years. Dale and Monie retired in 1990 and dedicated the next year to building their dream home on Pickeral Lake, where they currently reside. It was there that they were blessed with their young neighbors Chuck and Lori Blonigan, who were quickly “adopted” as both friends and family.

For twenty years they were dedicated snowbirds in Yuma, AZ, where they met and made many lifelong friends, who they enjoyed playing cards with, dancing, and becoming legendary for their hospitality and neighborhood margarita parties.

Monie lived a faith driven life with grace and always put her family and friends at the center of her life. She was a devoted mother, grandmother, and great grandmother, who cherished attending her children’s sporting events, concerts, and various activities. In her later years, she delighted in attending events for her grandchildren and great grandchildren.

She is survived by her loving husband of 65 years, Dale; one son, Michael (Karen) Amundson, of Fargo, ND; one daughter, Susan (Mitch) Leupp, of Surrey, ND; five grandchildren, Adam (Gretchen) Amundson, of Fargo, ND, Seth (Kendra) Amundson, of Fargo, ND, Dayna Estenson, of Fargo, ND, Heather (Kole) Jenson, of Minot, ND, and Trenton (Lexie) Flaten, of Minot, ND; and nine great grandchildren. Waiting for her in Heaven with open arms are her parents, Harry and Helen Runger, and her brother, James Runger, along with many dear friends and extended family members.

The family appreciates the compassionate care of HIA Hospice and asks that donations be made to them in her memory, in lieu of flowers.

Mass of Christian Burial will be on Thursday March 26, 2026; 12 noon at Holy Rosary Catholic Church in Detroit Lakes, MN. Visitation will be one hour prior to services. Interment will be in the Oak Grove Cemetery, Detroit Lakes, MN. The West-Kjos Funeral Home is handling the arrangements.
