Randall Scott
Schnitzer
Oct 14, 1960 — May 13, 2026
Randall Scott Schnitzer was born on October 14, 1960 in Detroit Lakes, MN, to Alfred and Marlene Schnitzer. He passed away at home on May 13, 2026, in the same Detroit Lakes residence where he spent his childhood.
Randy spent his childhood on the family farm and graduated in 1979 from Detroit Lakes High School. He spent 20 years serving in the Air Force in Texas, Georgia, Washington, United Kingdom, Guam, Turkey, Saudi Arabia, finishing his career as Technical Sergeant at Tyndall AFB near Panama City, Florida in 1999. During his tenure in the military, he served as a Munitions System Specialist, where he was responsible for the maintenance and handling of bombs, missiles, and other aircraft-mounted munitions essential to mission execution.
Randy continued to reside and work in Florida at Gulf Coast Pest Control after military retirement until hurricane Michael brought him home to Minnesota where he spent the last 8 years in Detroit Lakes. He was frequently seen at Zorbaz watching the races, at Sunlight grabbing lunch, or taking in a local volleyball or basketball game at the high school, cheering on the hometown team.
Randy enjoyed air shows, antiquing in the MN area, and had a great love for Nascar. He would road trip to Talladega almost every year still using a 20 year old Atlas for navigation with a disposable camera in his hand and a smart phone with both map and camera stuffed in his pocket. He had stories from the wins, losses and great crashes he was able to witness first hand. Randy loved to talk and would spend his time with family and friends telling stories and reconnecting with friends from childhood.
Randy was preceded in death by his parents, Alfred and Marlene Schnitzer, and his nephew, Tyler Chase. He is survived by his sisters, Lois Wood, Denise Schnitzer, Ranae Jensen (David), Amy Hrichena (Justin), and Susan Goffe, as well as three nephews and five nieces.
