Richard B. Fleming age 77 of Detroit Lakes, MN died May 24, 2026 at Essentia Health in Fargo, ND.

Richard Boyd Fleming was born April 5, 1949 in Dayton, OH to Joseph and Francine (Teague) Fleming. As a young boy his family moved to Nevis, MN, where they owned and operated the Spider Lake Resort. Richard completed his education in Nevis, graduating from Nevis High School. He was united in marriage to Valerie Medaris at Mount Olivet Lutheran Church in Minneapolis, MN. Together they made their home in Minneapolis. Richard then served in the United State Marine Corp. Rick and Valerie divorced and he moved back to Ohio. He owned and operated a Pest Control business and also did security and EMS work in Ohio. In 1993 he moved to Detroit Lakes and worked as a security guard at the Shooting Star Casino in Mahnomen and later worked for Lakeshirts in Detroit Lakes.

Rick was a member of the Sucker Creek Shooting Club and enjoyed participating in Cowboy Shoots. He was also a member of the Masonic Lodge. He and Valerie were the primary caregivers for Valerie’s Mom and Dad for many years.

He is survived by his children, Richard, Cynthia and Michael; eight grandchildren, Rhiannon, Tory, Kyra, Jacy, and Skye Fleming, Tayler Harms, Kaya and Mickayela Faust; one great grandson, Jack; brother-in-law, David (Nancy) Medaris; nieces, Kira Fuller and Shannon Medaris; great niece, Nora Fuller, and great nephew, Austin Fuller.

He was preceded in death by his parents; father and mother-in-law, Robert H. and Helen E. Medaris; and the love of his life, Valerie Medaris.
