Richard A. Riedberger

Richard “Dick” Arden Riedberger was born to Forrest “Dit” and Grace (Whaley) Riedberger on June 9^th, 1941.  He passed away at Sunnyside Care Center on October 10, 2022, surrounded by his family.  He grew up in Hawley, Minnesota where he excelled in athletics.  He continued his athletic journey at the University of Minnesota and graduated from the University of North Dakota with a Bachelor’s degree of Education. 

He taught and coached in Browns Valley, Barnesville, Grand Marais, and Detroit Lakes.  He also taught driver’s training for over 37 years.  He enjoyed a long life filled with hunting, fishing, and sports.  After retirement they enjoyed winters in Gulf Shores, AL. Most important to him was his faith, family, and friends.

He is survived by his high school sweetheart, wife of 63 years, Kathy Odegaard, their four children; Randy (Detroit Lakes), Greg (Beth) (Frazee), David (Wanda) (Rockford), and Stephanie (Shawn) Qualley (Detroit Lakes), as well as six grandchildren; Amanda, Zachery, Elizabeth, Courtney, Mitchell, and Tricia, and 17 great grandchildren. Also, he is survived by his sister Pat (Mike) Elton, in-laws Peg and Del, Roger and Jean, Jim and Mel Odegaard, Betty and Steve Wignes, bonus daughter Stacie Kvilvang (Steve), and numerous nieces, nephews, and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his in-laws Toye and Ida Odegaard, and granddaughter Brittany Riedberger.

The family would like to express their gratitude to the staff at Sunnyside Care Center and Hospice of the Red River Valley for their compassion and excellent care.
