Robert "Bob" Roland Hoover was born April 12, 1940, in Faribault, Minnesota. Parents were Helen (Kertcher) and Roland Hoover. He was the oldest of 11 children.

Bob went to Elementary school at Little Prairie and Northfield, Mn. high school. While at YTC Bible camp he met Dorothy Hanson. They were both campers and then counselors. Bob joined the Navy in 1959 and served 4 years at Camp Pendleton, San Diego, then 6 years in the Navy Reserve.

Bob and Dorothy were married September 24, 1960, and were blessed with 4 children. Gregory, Dennis, Kathleen and Douglas. He was a foster father to 124 kids through the Foster Care and Safe House program.

After the Navy Bob was a policeman for 14 years in Fargo, ND and New Hope MN. He was a firearms instructor in both the Navy and police departments. An injury on duty forced him to retire and it was at that time they purchased Long Bridge Resort in Detroit Lakes and operated that for 20 years.

During this time, he was president of the Detroit Lakes Resort Association, president of Detroit Lakes Chamber of Commerce, president of Vikingland Sons of Norway Lodge 3x's, Sons of Norway zone director, president of District 1 (10 states}, and international director of Sons of Norway.

He was a square dancer and Norwegian folk dancer for 45 years, and oh yes, always ready for a game of cards.

Bob was a Tine Norwegian box maker, teaching box making locally and throughout the upper Midwest. Selling his boxes at festivals and Norsk Hostfest for 23 years. He was a member of Trinity Lutheran church, North Country Arts, Sod Busters, Oddfellows, Rollag Steam Threshers and Norsk Hostfest. He was named Becker County Outstanding Senior Citizen for 2022.

Bob enjoyed hunting and fishing with his children and grandchildren. Bob and Dorothy traveled extensively visiting all 50 states and several countries.

Bob survived open heart surgery, bladder cancer, knee replacement, leukemia, diabetes, and numerous strokes before Jesus called him home.

Preceding him in death are both his parents, son Gregory, sisters Lue, Jean, Susan and brother Bill. Surviving is his wife Dorothy, children Dennis (April), Kathleen, Douglas (Melissa), grandchildren Emma (Gage), Nicholas, Adam and Elaina. Sisters Gail, Cherrie, Kay, and Heidi, brothers Charles and Les. Sisters and brother-in-law, JoAnne, Barb, Betty and Ron and numerous nephews and nieces.

Bob's love of his family, church, country and fellow man was remarkable. Volunteering in countless ways. He was loved by many.

Burial is at Oak Grove Cemetery in Detroit Lakes.
