Rodney Eugene Sumpter

Rodney E. Sumpter age 66 of Detroit Lakes, MN died September 29, 2018 at his residence. Rodney Eugene Sumpter was born June 8, 1952 in Beloit, WI to Raymond and Mary (Retter) Sumpter. The family moved to Pelican Rapids, MN when Rodney was nine years old. He finished his education there, graduating from Pelican Rapids High School. Rodney worked construction for many years and later did maintenance and janitorial work. In 1978 he married Margaret Anderson. In 2014 he married Michelle Stoltz. Rodney was a “Jack of all trades”. He could fix almost anything. He also did mechanic work and woodworking. He loved Motorcycles, NASCAR, and collecting replica race cars. He was always there to lend a helping hand. He was also a member of the 49er’s Heavy Equipment Operator’s Union. He is survived by his wife, Michelle; one son, Christopher (Genevieve) Sumpter, of Detroit Lakes, MN; five granddaughters; and one sister, Norma Creamer, of Ohio. He was preceded in death by his parents. Memorial Services will be on Saturday October 20, 2018; 4:00 p.m. at the Lakes Area Vineyard Church in Detroit Lakes, MN. Visitation will be one hour prior to services. Arrangements have been entrusted to the West-Kjos Funeral Home of Detroit Lakes.
