Rosalynn “Rose” Marie Bekkerus was born June 6, 1922 in Clay County, Minnesota the daughter of Milton and Hertha (Paschke) Gee. Rose passed away December 10, 2017 in Moorhead, Minnesota at Farmstead Care. Rose grew up in Clay County, north of Moorhead, and attended the country school, Oak Mound Elementary. Rose graduated from Moorhead High School and continued her education at Dakota Business School before going to work at Fargo National Bank. On May 14, 1948 she was united in marriage to Gordon Bekkerus at Trinity Lutheran Church in Moorhead. They made their home north of Glyndon and began raising their family, farming and operating a grocery store. To this union six children were born. In 1965, the family moved to Detroit Lakes. Rose and Gordy, along with Elizabeth (Rose’s sister) and Maurice Seter, opened Detroit Mountain Ski Area in 1958 and later Russell and Lois Bekkerus joined the operation. Rose and Elizabeth ran the cafeteria, serving their homemade pies, chili and burgers. She also worked at the Old Time Candy Shop before beginning a 30 year career at J.C. Penney. Rose was a member at First Lutheran Church where she was active in the quilting club. Rose enjoyed baking and cooking for the family and friends, and gardening. Rose is survived by her children: Bob (Bonnie) Bekkerus of Detroit Lakes; Gary (Ella) Bekkerus of Park Rapids; Cindy (Curt) Bye of Moorhead; Joey Bekkerus of Moorhead; John (Mary) Bekkerus of Frazee; Babe (Cindy) Bekkerus of Pelican Rapids; grandchildren: Ryan (Audra) Bekkerus, Casey Bekkerus, Matt Bekkerus, Sara, Ashley, and Emily Bekkerus, Michael (Anna) Haarstad, Heather (Nick) Olson, Jena (Mark) Evans, Kayla, Cody and Alexa Bekkerus; great grandchildren: Chase, Hudson, Hadley, Dylan, Eljin, Bek, Lily, Heidi, Hazel, CeCe, Lucy Jo; In-law’s Margaret Harkness of Moorhead; Russell (Lois) Bekkerus of Glyndon; Mae Gee of Moorhead; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband Gordon, her parents, siblings: Mavis Oster, Milton Gee Jr., Elizabeth Seter, and Bob Gee.
