Russell Matthew Heltemes

Russell M. Heltemes age 47 of Bristol, Virginia, formerly of Detroit Lakes, MN died July 27, 2018 at his residence after three years of gradually failing health. Russell Matthew Heltemes was born September 29, 1970 in Detroit Lakes, MN. He grew up and received his education in Detroit Lakes. He attended Washington Elementary School and graduated from The Detroit Lakes ALC program. Over the years he lived in Audubon, Bemidji, and Iowa and in recent years Bristol, VA. Growing up Russ loved camping. He and his family camped in several states and Canada. After moving to Virginia, he would repair old bikes, mow lawns for elderly neighbors, and raise a big garden. He loved being outside surrounded by the beautiful mountains and a more temperate climate. He is survived by two sons, Andre and Michael; parents, Leonard and Sue Heltemes; one brother, Thad (Tammy) of Waunakee, WI; Uncles, Aunts, and Cousins; and best friend of thirty years Mark (Rhonda) Maynard, of Bristol, VA. He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Leonard and Mable Heltemes and Alex and LaRayne Klemaseski. Memorial Services will be on Saturday August 18, 2018; 2:00 p.m. at the West-Kjos Funeral Home in Detroit Lakes, MN. Visitation will be one hour prior to services. Interment will be in the Oak Grove Cemetery, Detroit Lakes, MN.
