Russell Milton Vogt was born December 12, 1935 in Richwood, Minnesota, the son of Joseph and Mabel (Westgard) Vogt. He passed away May 10, 2021 at Oak Crossing in Detroit Lakes, Minnesota.
He grew up and attended country school in Richwood and later attended Detroit Lakes High School. Russell worked at Snappy’s in Detroit Lakes for over 50 years, where he became Maintenance Manager.
On February 17, 1996 Russell was united in marriage to Vicky Wischnak at Zion Lutheran Church in Detroit Lakes. They made their home in Detroit Lakes and enjoyed traveling. Russell was a member of the Eagles, enjoyed restoring cars and trucks, and always looked forward to his annual Elk hunting trip in Colorado with the twins.
Russell is survived by his wife Vicky Vogt; children, Diane (Stacey) Heer, Gerald (Shelley) Vogt, Sharon (Steve) Lownik, Linda Jones, Roxanne (Neil) Sonnenberg, Amanda (Jake Lunski) Vogt, Kyle (Kaydie) Vogt, Casey (Jessie) Vogt, and Andrea Holm; 19 grandchildren; several great grandchildren; and brother, George (Sylvia) Vogt.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Joseph and Mabel Vogt; infant son, Darren; step-daughter, Heidi Wischnak; grandson, Chad Bennett; brothers, Richard Vogt and Norman Vogt; sisters, Jeanette Mayberry and Carole Olds; and mothers of his children, Helen Ness and Nancy Marjamaa.
Memorial Services will be on Thursday May 20, 2021; 2:00 p.m. at Zion Lutheran Church in Detroit Lakes, MN. Visitation will be on Wednesday from 5:00 – 7:00 p.m. at the West-Kjos Funeral Home in Detroit Lakes, with a prayer service at 7:00 p.m.
