Sharon Kay Chase, age 87, passed away on December 7, 2025, after a battle with Colon Cancer which she was diagnosed with in June of this year.
Sharon was born on August 24, 1938, in Worthington, MN to parents Kenneth and Jennie (Brumley) King. They lived in Harris, IA and after the death of her father when she was two, stayed in Harris until 1949, when Sharon, her mother, and sister Shirley moved to Minneapolis, MN.
At the young age of 14, Sharon started waitressing after school to help support her family. She graduated high school in 1956 and then worked at the Minneapolis Grain Exchange and at the U of M as a Stenographer. She and Etzel met in Coon Rapids, MN and married May 11, 1957. They lived there until moving to Detroit Lakes in 1969. They farmed until 1975 and moved closer to town. After staying home with the children and helping run the farm, Sharon went to work at Dakota Clinic and managed the Records Department. She was in charge of transferring all of the records into the first computer system. Sharon worked there until she and Etzel retired in 1993.
Sharon loved traveling (she drove, he ate snacks) and fishing with Etzel, watching golf, football, and figure skating. She loved attending all of her grandchildren’s school and sporting events. She loved cooking for the hunters, (they were so spoiled), and baking her grandchildren’s favorite cookies. Everyone loved Grandma’s oatmeal raisin cookies! She loved her little dog Sadie, who kept her company after Etzel passed away, and morning walks with her good friend Betty Smith. Most of all she loved spending time with her family. She said over and over how blessed she was, but it was all of us who were so blessed by her.
She was a very active member for 56 years of Bakke Lutheran Church in rural Detroit Lakes. They were also family to her.
Sharon is survived by her two sons, Keith (Lois) Chase of Horace, ND, Michael (Shelley) Chase, or Prior Lake, MN, stepson David (Sheryl) Chase, two daughters, Lori (Perry) Windels, of Detroit Lakes, MN, and Carrie (Rob) Anderson of Detroit Lakes, MN, 14 grandchildren and 9 great-grandchildren.
Sharon was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Etzel, sister Shirley Foley, her mother and father in-law, Harold and Inga Chase, sister and brother in-law Geralda and Leonard Anderson, one niece and two nephews and grandson Tyler Chase.
