Sharon Ann Keen

May 20, 1949 — June 26, 2021

Sharon Ann (Tovson) Bernard Keen, 72, beloved mother, grandmother and great grandmother, died peacefully June 26, 2021 under the care of Hospice of the Red River Valley.

Sharon was born in Detroit Lakes, MN and grew up in the rural Richwood area where she attended Pelican Valley one room schoolhouse until 3rd grade and then Callaway Elementary School. She graduated from Detroit Lakes High School in 1967. After high school she lived in Fargo, ND and Minneapolis, MN before moving to Tacoma WA where she married Loren, started her family and had one daughter, Lynn. She moved back to Detroit Lakes, MN after losing Loren in a tragic accident.

After reigniting an old romance, she and Dave had two children together (Sharon and David Jr), and in 1980 bought their home on Long Lake. They ran several local businesses including a general store in Ogema, a pawnshop, the Northside Sport Shop, D.L. Sports Card Shop, Richwood Gift Shop, and Country Girl’s Concession Stand, where Sharon spent almost 20 years serving the Shady Hollow Flea Market. She enjoyed being active in the community and helping others - she was a long time Campfire Leader and volunteered with the 4-H program for many years. In her free time, she loved baking, sewing, crocheting, puzzles, traveling, and gardening, especially in the company of friends and family. Sharon will be remembered for the way she always had time to stop and have coffee and conversation. She was a devoted daughter, spending time daily with her mom until her health did not allow it, and was always ready to bake a birthday cake or treats to share.

Sharon is survived by her daughters, Lynn (Jerome) Hendricks, Sharon (Michael) Dekker, her son David William Keen Jr., her grandchildren Crystal (Kyle) Johnson, Matthew (Mari) Vareberg, Carissa and Hannah Hendricks, Cheyann (Tommy) Manthey, Briah Azure, David and Kaleb Dekker, her three bonus grandchildren Jak, Alex and Max Wasche, eight great grandchildren, her sister Sandy (Dale) Williams, brother Steve (Debbie) Tovson, sister-in-law, Starla Tovson, and many nieces, nephews, cousins and other bonus grandchildren that she considered her own.

She is preceded in death by her mother Florence Mathilda (Killingstad) Tovson Mercer, father Donald Tovson, husband Loren Joseph Bernard, long time partner, David William Keen Sr., as well as several beloved siblings-Debra Tovson(1961), James Tovson(1969), Diane Tovson Graham Delaney(1997), and Jerald Tovson(2020).
