Shirley Carr

Shirley J. Carr age 79 of Detroit Lakes, MN died March 2, 2019 at Ecumen-Emmanuel Nursing Home in Detroit Lakes, MN. Shirley Jeanne Carr was born June 27, 1939 in Hawley, MN to Herbert and Nellie (Nelson) Melbye. She grew up and attended school in Hawley, graduating from Hawley High School in 1957. She married Arnold Priewe in 1957 and they made their home in Frazee, MN. Shirley worked at the Swift Turkey Plant in Frazee. In 1972 she married Orville Bladow. They made their home in Frazee until moving to Detroit Lakes in 1977. She worked at the Eagles Club in Detroit Lakes, where she sold pull tabs for more than twenty five years. She married Donald Carr in 1992. Shirley enjoyed lake life on Pearl Lake. She liked fishing, flower gardening, and baking. She was a real dog lover, her favorite dog being “Teddy.” She is survived by two sons, David (Debbie) Priewe, of Richville, MN; and Raymond Priewe, of Detroit Lakes, MN; three daughters, Karen (Larry) Oelfke, of Frazee, MN; Dorene (Bill) Groninga, of Vergas, MN; and Julie (Jon) Bladow-Anderson, of Lake Park, MN; thirteen grandchildren, Tory, Jessica, Misty, Meghan, Stevie, Heather, Chad, Aiden, Tyler, Dawn, Candi, Kari, and DJ; eighteen great grandchildren; one brother, Gary (Carol) Melbye, of TX; two sisters, Grace Harper, of TN; and Nona Meyer, of NE; and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her 1st husband, Arnold Priewe; 2nd husband, Orville Bladow; 3rd husband, Donald Carr; five brothers; and two sisters. Memorial Services will be held on Thursday March 7, 2019; 2:00 p.m. at the West-Kjos Funeral Home in Detroit Lakes, MN. Visitation will be one hour prior to services. Interment will be in the Oak Grove Cemetery, Detroit Lakes, MN.
