Shirley Marie Van Wey

Shirley M. Van Wey age 82 of Lake Park, MN died August 8, 2018 at the Sunnyside Care Center in Lake Park, MN. Shirley Marie Van Wey was born October 10, 1935 in Comstock, MN to John and Mildred (Lorenzon) Cossette. She grew up and attended school in Hawley, MN. On February 21, 1953 she was united in marriage to Vern Van Wey in Racine, WI. They made their home and raised their children in Racine before moving back to Lake Park, MN in 1990. Shirley enjoyed fishing, gardening, canning, snowmobiling, reading, and knitting. But the greatest love of her life was her family. She is survived by one son, Randy (Jody) Van Wey, of Mount Pleasant, WI; one daughter, Ruth (John) Paquin, of Detroit Lakes, MN; four grandchildren, Amy, Tina, Michael, and Mathew; six great grandchildren; two brothers, Roger (Betty) Cossette of Deerbrook, WI; and Jack (Cheryl) Cossette, of Audubon, MN; one sister, Elaine (Jim) Price, of Ulen, MN; one brother in law, Gordon Hughes, of Cass Lake, MN; two sisters in law, Janet Cossette, of Detroit Lakes, MN; and Pam Cossette, of Lake Park, MN; and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, Vern; two brothers, Robert Cossette and Harold Cossette; two sisters, Ann Hughes and Darlene (Wayne) Baker; two nephews, David and Tim; and her parents. Funeral Services will be on Saturday August 11, 2018; 10:00 a.m. at the West-Kjos Funeral Home in Detroit Lakes, MN. Visitation will be one hour prior to services. Interment will be in the Lake Park Lutheran Church Cemetery, Lake Park, MN. The family would like to thank the Staff at Sunnyside Care Center for the great care that Shirley received, and also extend a special thank you to Tammy and Heidi Cossette.
