Stephen William Piemonte was born on November 15, 1955 in Brooklyn, New York. He was the second of five children of Ralph and Rose Marie (Farrell) Piemonte. He passed away of natural causes in his home at the age of 66 on December 19, 2021.
Steve graduated from John F. Kennedy High School in Somers, NY. He attended community college in Arizona for about a year but left to help support his family after his father's first heart attack.
He met Wanda Pimple through his brother Ralph, who worked with Wanda at Regis College in Denver, CO. Steve and Wanda were married on January 26, 1980 at Regis College. They later moved to Phoenix, AZ, where they had 2 children, Anthony in 1982 and Joseph in 1986.
While in Phoenix, Steve worked as a district manager for Peter Piper Pizzas. He also opened an Italian restaurant, Pastacelli's, with a friend. Unfortunately, times were tough and the Piemonte family moved to Detroit Lakes, MN in July of 1989 to pursue a business opportunity. That opportunity fell through, so he took a job at Swift Echrich until the plant closed down in 1991.
Steve was fortunate to become the Executive Chef at the Casa Roma restaurant in the newly opening Shooting Star Casino in Mahnomen, Minnesota. He stayed in that job until the restaurant closed, at which time he transferred to the purchasing department. Eventually Steve became the Food and Beverage Purchaser for the casino, a job he held until his retirement in October of 2021.
Steve met Elizabeth (Beth) Thelen at Zorbaz in 2003. The two fell in love and were married on August 20, 2005 at the Detroit Lakes Country Club.
He had many passions, firearms, cars, motorcycles, and movies. But he was most passionate about his family, and New York. Steve will be remembered most as a man who worked hard, played hard, and was always willing to do anything to get a laugh, a trait passed on to his sons.
Stephen is survived by his wife Elizabeth of Detroit Lakes; sons Anthony (Jillene) Piemonte of Detroit Lakes; Joseph Piemonte of Fort Collins, CO; granddaughter Aubrianna Piemonte of Detroit Lakes; faithful dog, Nala; former spouse, Wanda Piemonte; Mother Rose Marie Piemonte of Phoenix, AZ; siblings Ron (Tina) Piemonte of Draper, VA; Paul Piemonte of Marietta, GA and Marianne (Robert) Mena of Sylmar, CA. Mother-in-law Lois Thelen, Sisters-in-law Sue (Pat) Murray, and Brenda Thelen.
Preceding Stephen in death were his father Ralph R. Piemonte; brother, Ralph P. Piemonte.
