Steven Willis Hage, age 71, of Detroit Lakes, Minnesota, passed away peacefully on June 10, 2026.
Steve was born on May 6, 1955, in Arizona. He moved to Detroit Lakes, Minnesota, during his senior year of high school and made it his home for the rest of his life. Throughout the years, he built lasting friendships and was known for his hardworking nature, and contagious smile.
Steve spent his life working in the construction industry, where he was a skilled bricklayer, concrete worker, and home builder. He took great pride in helping build homes, businesses, and communities throughout the area, leaving behind a legacy of hard work, craftsmanship, and dedication that will stand for generations.
He enjoyed spending time gardening, hunting, and dancing. Above all, he treasured the companionship of good friends, as well as the time he spent with family.
Steve will be remembered for his contagious laughter, quick wit, and strong spirit.
Steve is survived by his children, Jeni Mann (Brandon Pechia), Brian Hage, and Robert DeFreese; and his beloved grandchildren, Tarah, Taylor, Donovan, Jacob, and Jamie and great granddaughter Zaya; brother David Hage, and his nieces and nephews.
He will also be deeply missed by many extended family members, and friends, and all who had the pleasure of knowing him.
Steve was preceded in death by his father, Willis Hage; his mother, Mary Hage, who passed away when Steve was just eight years old; and Greta Hage, who lovingly helped raise him and played an important role in his life.
Steve’s memory will live on through the stories shared, the lessons he taught, and the love he gave to those around him. His family finds comfort in knowing that his legacy will continue in the hearts of those who loved him.
A funeral service will be held at West-Kjos Funeral Home on June 19, 2026. Family and friends are invited to attend and celebrate Steve’s life.
Following the service, a Celebration of Life gathering will be held at Northside Bar, where family and friends are welcome to share memories, laughter, and stories in honor of Steve.
