Steven Paul Leitheiser

September 13, 1955 — April 22, 2018

The outdoors lost a great Sportsman. Steven Paul “Lighty” Leitheiser passed away peacefully on Sunday April 22, 2018 at his home surrounded by his family. Steve was born on September 13, 1955 to Herb and Wilma (Johnson) Leitheiser in Detroit Lakes MN. He grew up on West Avenue with two older sisters that taught him a few lessons in life. Lighty graduated from Detroit Lakes Senior High School in 1974 where his adventures continued in the area throughout his life. Steve was united in marriage to Laurie Johnson at an early age and had two sons, Jason and Travis, whom he was able to pass down his love for hunting and fishing; just as his dad Herb, did with him. He held various jobs in his younger years such as; Grover’s Gas Station, Skylark Chicken Ranch and drove truck for Snappy Woodside. In 1984, Steve united in marriage with Kim Anderson and had two children, Tylor and Stephanie. He continued to share his enjoyment of the outdoors, driving through trails and back roads, camping, four-wheeling, boating and spending time with family and friends. Steve worked for many years as a welder for Bob’s Machine Mfg. and TS Recreational. He was not one for sitting idle, always had some creation on his mind that he would make as his own invention. His personality would always keep you on your toes and a sense of humor that could cover all topics and was sure to keep all laughing and smiling, sometimes even without him saying anything at all. Steve is survived by his four children; Jason (Kacey) Leitheiser, Travis Leitheiser, Tylor Leitheiser and Stephanie (Marshall) Steen and one grandchild, Easton Leitheiser. His mother; Wilma Leitheiser, two sisters; Phyllis (Rick) Hecathorn, Bonnie (Peter) Nelson. A special friend; Sue Olson, along with numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. Steve is preceded in death by his wife; Kim, Father; Herb, and Father-in-law; Bob. In memory of Lighty, Please take a moment to “Cheers” him while at your “Deer Camp” as he would always say “Life Doesn’t Get Any Better Than This!”
