Terry L. Bowers age 73 of Detroit Lakes, MN died February 11, 2026 at his residence, surrounded by his loving family.

Terry Lee Bowers was born February 23, 1952 in Detroit Lakes, MN to Richard and Delores (Peterson) Bowers. He grew up and attended school in Lake Park, MN, graduating from Lake Park High School in 1970. Following High School he attended the Thief River Falls Community College. In 1973 he was united in marriage to Debbie West at First Lutheran Church in Detroit Lakes. They made their home in Detroit Lakes. He worked as a Chef in numerous restaurants in the area, including The Moorhead Holiday Inn, and the Greystone and Edgewater in Detroit Lakes. He then started a career at Audubon Engineering as a Purchasing Agent, which spanned over twenty years. He was married to Laurie Leitheiser in 1997. In 2005 Terry received a heart transplant at Abbott Northwestern Hospital in Minneapolis. In his later years he worked in the meat Dept. at Central Market in Detroit Lakes.

Terry loved the outdoors, especially deer hunting and Walleye fishing on Boyer Lake. He also enjoyed gardening and raising Chocolate Labs. Time spent with his grandchildren was very important to him.

He is survived by one son, Nick (Alicia) Bowers, of Detroit Lakes, MN; one daughter, Jennie (Chris) Ward, of Lake Park, MN; two stepsons, Jason (Kacey) Leitheiser, of Detroit Lakes, MN; and Travis Leitheiser, of Illinois; seven grandchildren, Madison, Ella, and Brody Bowers; Coal and Bella Ward; and Easton and Ruby Leitheiser; three brothers, Larry Bowers, Gary “Lefty” (Teri) Bowers, and Barry Bowers; three sisters, Bonnie (Greg) Schmidt; Connie (Tom) McDougall; and Sherrie (Mel) Wasserman-Bowers; brother in law, Mark Peterson; several nieces and nephews; and his best friend and companion “Red.”

He was preceded in death by his wife, Laurie; one sister, Lonnie Peterson; and his parents.

Memorial Services will be on Saturday February 21, 2026; 11:00 a.m. at the Lake Park Lutheran Church in Lake Park, MN. Visitation will be one hour prior to services. Interment will be in the Lake Park Lutheran Cemetery, Lake Park, MN. Arrangements have been entrusted to the West-Kjos Funeral Home of Detroit Lakes.
