Thomas Mattioli

Thomas Mattioli, 79, of Detroit Lakes, MN, passed away on Saturday September 8, 2018, at Oak Crossing.  A Mass of Christian burial  will be held on Friday September 14th, 2018, at 1pm at Holy Rosary Catholic Church in Detroit Lakes, MN. Visitation will be on Thursday September 13th, 2018, from 5-7 pm, 6:30pm Rosary and 7pm prayer service at West-Kjos Funeral Home in Detroit Lakes, MN. Thomas Mattioli was born on May 5, 1939 in Mondovi, Wisconsin, and adopted by Amadeo and Estelle Mattioli.  He was raised in Hibbing, MN, in his early years.  The family then moved to Camp Mohegomi on Steamboat Lake, by Cass Lake, MN, then moved to Walker, MN, where he graduated with the class of 1958.  On February 2, 1959, he enlisted with US Air Force, and proudly served during the Vietnam War. He was honorably discharged on February 24, 1961. On June 18, 1966 Thomas was united in marriage to Elvira “Sam” Varriano at St. Elizabeth Catholic Church in Dilworth, MN. Thomas had a varied work history. He started the first taxi service, Courtesy Cab, in Detroit Lakes, owned and operated Minnesota Communications, and snowplowing in the winter. Thomas enjoyed everything about the outdoors. He loved to hunt and fish as much as he could.  He is survived by his wife Sam; sister Terri LaFriniere; and extended family and friends. Thomas was preceded in death by his parents.
