Timothy Harrison
Dodd
Jul 9, 1955 — Jul 2, 2026
Detroit Lakes
Timothy Harrison Dodd (70), lost his 19-year battle with cancer on July 2 at his home in Detroit Lakes, MN. His son was at his side.
Tim was born July 9, 1955 to Gordon and Elizabeth (“Betty”) Dodd, and was raised with his sisters, Susan and Judy, in Fargo, ND. He graduated from Fargo South High in 1973, earned a Bachelor’s Degree from Arizona State University, and a Juris Doctorate from University of Minnesota/ Minneapolis. He practiced Law in the Minneapolis area before opening a practice in Detroit Lakes. He retired in January 2026.
Tim loved all things “sports” He was a lifelong Minnesota Twins and Vikings fan – a love he passed on to his son, Austin. In turn, Austin convinced him to add the Minnesota Timberwolves to his roster of favorite teams. Tim cheered for the Vikings through thick and thin, and one of his greatest joys was cheering on the Twins from the stands to a World Series victory in 1987.
Tim was a life-long learner; he loved to read and was an ardent student of American history. He was an expert on the Civil War and US Presidents. He enjoyed playing trivia where his extensive knowledge often helped land his team in the winner’s circle. Tim excelled at applying his knowledge of history to current events. To know Tim was to know he was never reluctant to speak his mind, and he always had the facts to back-up his opinions. Tim started to play the guitar after college, and became quite accomplished - especially after discovering math and music theory were deeply intertwined. He never stopped playing - and learning.
Yet for all of Tim’s accomplishments, his greatest was raising his son Austin. Tim loved being a dad, and he was a great one. Tim and Austin spent countless hours together going to ball games, road trips, golfing and playing games (Monopoly being a favorite). He raised Austin to be the kind, respectful man that he is today and was forever proud of his many achievements.
Tim is survived by his son and his sisters. He was preceded in death by his parents and grandparents. Tim read and studied the Bible and was a true believer in God. We rejoice in knowing that Tim is now whole, at peace and reunited with loved ones in Heaven.
A service for Tim will be held on July 17, 2026 at West Kjos Funeral Home followed by a celebration of life reception. In lieu of flowers, please donate to a charity of your choice.
From a January 2000 interview with the Detroit Lakes Tribune-
“Dodd said he has worked hard to build a reputation for honesty and fair play in his practice. If he were laid to rest tomorrow, he would be very happy if people were to only remember him as an honest lawyer and person who was good to his family.”
