Violette Ardella Lemmon

Violette Ardella Lemmon, 90 of Detroit Lakes, MN passed away during the afternoon of Friday, December 10, 2021 surrounded by her family.

Violette was born on March 24, 1931, to Eddie & Eleanor LaVern (Solum) Fingalson of Richwood Township, MN.  Her mother passed away when Violette was a young girl, subsequently her father raised her with the help of his family. Violette spoke often of how much she loved her grandparents, aunts, uncles, and cousins. Her grandmother was a very skilled seamstress and sewed most of her clothes.  She grew up around Richwood, MN, and graduated Detroit Lakes High School in 1949.  After high school Violette married Bert Patrick Connell and had two sons Terry and Steve.  Bert passed away suddenly at the age of 24 on January 24, 1956.  In 1964 Violette married Keith Lemmon and had two children Lori and Mark.  They made their home on the farm north of Detroit Lakes, MN, where they raised turkeys and sheep.  Keith and Violette moved into a condominium in Detroit Lakes, MN in 2001.

Violette enjoyed people and socializing.  She was actively involved with her church in many activities throughout the years.  Her faith brought her much comfort and strength.  She was often seen visiting her older relatives and helping them with their needs.  She loved being a mother and family meant everything to her.  She worked very hard at helping to provide a good home for her children.  Her hobbies included singing, listening to music, and playing piano by ear.  She attended weekly ceramics classes in Detroit Lakes.  She enjoyed shopping and decorating, and she was proud of her Norwegian heritage.  She was a very good cook and hostess and could make a wonderful meal.  Often, she would stop after an activity in town for “pie and coffee” at a local restaurant with a family member or friend, to enjoy the day and good company.

Violette is survived by her children Steve (Kathy) Connell, Lori (Troy) Miller and Mark (Wendi) Lemmon, Grandchildren (Landon, Nathan, Mathew, Trisha, Cherie, Melissa, Merry, Thomas, Edward, and Seth) and 16 great grandchildren and 4 great great-grandchildren.

She is preceded by her spouses Bert Connell and Keith Lemmon, son Terry Connell, parents, infant brother Milton O’Neil and grandson James Sears.

Services for Violette will be on Monday, December 20, 2021 at 11am at Bakke Lutheran Church in Detroit Lakes, MN with a visitation 1 hour prior. Services provided by West-Kjos Funeral Home.
